Did you know that all veterans are entitled to a free burial in a national cemetery and a grave marker? Some civilians are entitled to this same offer who have provided military related service and some public health service employees. Immediate family is also eligible for a lot and marker when buried in a national cemetery. There are no fees for opening or closing a grave, for a vault or liner, or for setting the marker in a national cemetery. You will be responsible for other expenses including transportation to the cemetery. For more information, visit the Department of Veteran's affairs website. To reach a Regional Veteran's office in your area, call 1-800-827-1000. Some states have established state Veteran's cemeteries-requirements and details may vary.
